LFF Holds Grantee Listening Session

Grant recipients from the Land, Health, Community and Land, Health, Community-Chicago programs gathered virtually on Friday, April 4th for a listening session with Lumpkin Family Foundation (LFF) staff. 24 nonprofit leaders shared their experiences and concerns about the abrupt halt to their federal grant agreements earlier this year.

When asked how LFF can help them weather the unstable federal grantmaking landscape to come, grantees offered these suggestions:

1. Trust and Increased Flexibility in Funding and Reporting
  • Longer-term, general operating funds
  • Flexibility to pivot as needed and to redefine success
2. Support for Organizational Capacity, Health, and Resiliency
  • Check in more often with grantees
  • Offer technical/legal support
  • Host more opportunities to connect
3. Encourage Other Funders to Get Involved
  • Double-down on grantee investment
  • Use influence to elevate grantee messaging
